Hear from Alex, founder of Growth Edge Counseling and Therapeutic Services– this month’s business spotlight!
Hi, I’m Alex, founder of Growth Edge Counseling and Therapeutic Services. I found counseling and art therapy because I wanted to work with art, ideas, and people! I’ve been practicing for the past six years in Colorado virtually and in-person, and work with all kinds of people ages 16+, navigating OCD, anxiety, grief, women’s health, alternative relationships, and LGBTQ+ identities. At the core, therapy with me is about making room for understanding your values and helping you build a life that feels more aligned with who you really want to be.
Are you wondering, “okay, but what even IS art therapy??” I get this question a lot. Art therapy is like regular talk therapy, except you get to play too! We bring art materials into the space — paint, string, wire, beads, tissue, trinkets, and anything that feels right. Sometimes it’s structured: there’s a directive and the art is a response. Other times, it’s open-ended, or the art sort of speaks for itself.
If you ever get a chance to try it, I’m going to shamelessly plug art therapy: I HIGHLY recommend it. I’m biased, but I do believe anyone could benefit from mental wellness counseling in general. It’s all about finding someone who feels right for you! So if you’ve been thinking about it for a while, this is your sign to reach out to a few therapists or set up some initial phone calls. Many therapists (myself included) offer a free phone call to see if you’d be a good match!
