Job Description:
Responsible for overall safety and health of guests in aquatic area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Continuously scan pools for patrons in distress; respond quickly and appropriately to all emergencies; provide First Aid and/or CPR as necessary. Prevent aquatic emergencies through public education rule enforcement and quick response.

Enforce all City policies, pool rules, and regulations involving the operation of the pool. Responsible for setting a good example for all aquatic employees in conduct, dress and manners.

Provide excellence in customer service. Deal with customer concerns/problems in a friendly and professional manner; report any customer and/or staff problems to the Pool Manager. Cooperate with user groups for pool space and time.

Clean and maintain pool; conduct routine safety checks of equipment and staff; ensure timely and accurate completion of all assigned paperwork. Perform related work as required and assigned.

Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and well-defined standard practices requiring some authority to select which methods are applicable in any given situation. Finished work is reviewed for accuracy, quality and completeness. Matters not specifically covered in operating instructions are reviewed with the supervisor.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge – CPR and First Aid; knowledge of departmental rules concerning the area in which assigned; and of Lifeguard philosophies, policies and procedures.

Skills – Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

Abilities – Prevent accidents; deal tactfully with customers, ability to make rescues and work in conditions described.

EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Training – Certified Lifeguard (from certifying agencies such as Star Guard Elite, Ellis & Associates, or American Red Cross)

Experience – Previous aquatics experience, pool maintenance and swim instruction preferred
or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
