The 2019 Criterium bike race and Brewfest on Ridge at 38 and accompanying festivities will take place in front of Wheat Ridge Cyclery on Sunday, June 9, 2019. The Criterium is in its sixth year and growing. We’re proud to announce this year we were again chosen to host the State Championship! This is the fourth year for the Brewfest featuring a dozen of the best local breweries. In addition to bike racing and the Brewfest, this event offers family-friendly activities, food, live music and vendors! Clancy’s Irish Pub will host live music all afternoon.
The Event Committee thanks you for your support with this event. We truly appreciate your understanding and patience as we strive to be as neighborhood-friendly as possible. For your convenience, we have provided detailed information on our 2019 event and how it may affect you as a resident and or business.
Background
A criterium is a short course bicycle race on city streets. Cyclists participating in the races will be doing quick laps of this circuit as many times as possible in the time limit. This ensures a lot of action and excitement for the spectators and athletes.
2019 Traffic Plan
In order to hold this race we will be closing some streets. To lessen the impact of street closure on residents and businesses, we are holding the race on Sunday.
There is a new and exciting race course this year, so road closures have changed slightly. Residents of the area and attendees of the event should review the following information carefully.
The event will take place on Sunday, June 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Neighborhood streets between Pierce Street and Teller Street in the race area to the south of 38th Avenue & north of 35th Avenue will be closed Sunday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (unless there is a rain delay). West 38th Avenue between Teller Street and Pierce Street will be closed Sunday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The festival area is located on the Stevens Elementary Green at 7101 W. 38th Ave and along High Court between 38th and 39th Avenue. The bike race itself will start and end in the intersection of High Court and 38th Avenue (see the map for full race route). The committee has consulted with and received approval from professional Traffic Engineers, the Wheat Ridge Public Works Departments, the Wheat Ridge Police Department and the West Metro Fire District. The approved plan emphasizes safety, helps manage and minimize vehicle traffic along the race route and still allows managed access to affected homes and businesses that day.
To allow for a safe and responsible route for cyclists, there will be designated “No Parking” areas on all streets that are on the race course. Parking restrictions will go into effect the night before the race so that the course is clear of cars the next morning. Signs will be clearly posted on Friday, June 7.
During the race, those businesses and residents who live inside the boundaries of the race course will have the ability transport in and out of their neighborhood using designated breaks in the race. There will be 5-minute breaks in between each race where the traffic control officers can coordinate vehicle traffic in and out of the affected neighborhood. The course schedule below gives the planned and approximate times. Traffic control officers will be at each intersection of the race course to help direct residents in and out at those approximately planned break times. See the above course map for a visual reference.
